Do you need gsync at 240hz

The display info shows G-Sync mode, but the current refresh rate shows always a fixed value of Hz in every game, even when frames drop far below FPS.

Does this mean, that my setup is not working properly? Are there any solutions for this issue? You have everything setup correctly.

Depending on the game settings and how much game activity is actually going on, the FPS will drop.

If you start a game and are sitting in the game menu, the FPS should be at You then enter the game itself and stuff is happening, the FPS will drop. This is normal. G-Sync is incorporated into monitors with the help of a module and these monitors are usually more expensive. However, if you already have a G-Sync monitor, you need to set it up properly, as there are some confusions that should be avoided.

Well, this is the step where most people get confused about. Vertical Sync, which introduces input lag is pointless when you have G-Sync. It totally depends on the game. In order to avoid this, you need to lock the frame rate of your game to the refresh rate of your monitor. In such cases, you will need to use something in addition to G-Sync. So, have you properly configured G-Sync now? Do let us know how this article has helped you by simply dropping a few words in the comments section down below.

Allow me to explain. The level of customizability, as wellNvidia G-Sync is a type of display technology used in certain PC monitors, laptops and TVs to fight screen tearing, stuttering and juddering, especially during fast-paced games or video. G-Sync only works when the display is connected to a system using a compatible Nvidia graphics card including third-party branded ones. Screen tearing is an unwelcome effect on the image see photo above. G-Sync displays have a variable refresh rate also known as VRR or a dynamic refresh rate and can sync its minimum and maximum refresh rates with the framerate of the system's Nvidia graphics card.

That refresh rate range can go as high as the monitor's maximum refresh rate. There are some key differences. However, Nvidia has said that it's working on changing this.

For more on the two ports and which is best for gaming, see our DisplayPort vs. HDMI analysis. In terms of performance, our testing has shown minute differences between the two. For an in-depth look at the variances in performance, check out our G-Sync vs. FreeSync article and see the results. Monitor vendors are required to buy this in place of the scaler they'd typically buy if they want their display certified for G-Sync or G-Sync Ultimate.

G-Sync comes in three different flavors. Unlike regular G-Sync, Nvidia certifies G-Sync Ultimate displays for ultra-low latency, multi-zone backlights, DCI-P3 color gamut coverage, 1, nits max brightness with HDR video or games and to run at its highest refresh rate at its max resolution -- all thanks to "advanced" Nvidia G-Sync processors. Keep in mind these displays are typically BFGD big format gaming displays and, therefore, on the pricier end.

To use a G-Sync monitor with a desktop PCyou need:. InNvidia started testing and approving specific displays, including ones with other types of Adaptive-Sync technology like FreeSync, to run G-Sync.

These monitors are called G-Sync Compatible. Confirmed by our own testing, G-Sync Compatible displays can successfully run G-Sync even though they don't have the same chips as a G-Sync or G-Sync Ultimate display with the proper driver and a few caveats.

Some things Nvidia confirms you can't do with G-Sync Compatible displays compared to regular G-Sync displays are ultra low motion blur, overclocking and variable overdrive. You can find the full list of G-Sync Compatible monitors at the bottom of Nvidia's webpage. However, we've also found that numerous FreeSync monitors can run G-Sync Compatibility even though they're not certified to do so.Joinsubscribers and get a daily digest of news, geek trivia, and our feature articles.

In the past, the solution has been to enable the vertical sync, or Vsync, feature in your games. This syncs up the frames with your monitor so each frame is sent to the monitor at the correct time, eliminating screen tearing. And 30 frames per second is not exactly smooth. This is especially useful on monitors with higher refresh rates, like Hz. The only catch? You need a monitor that supports G-Sync, since it requires a chip in the monitor. By default, G-Sync is only enabled for games running in full screen mode.

This will make G-Sync work even when you play games in windowed mode on your desktop, too. Windows should also be set to the correct refresh rate for your high refresh rate monitor. These settings will reintroduce screen tearing, removing the benefits of G-Sync—but reduce input latency a bit.

This prevents screen tearing from occurring. However, it can introduce a bit more input latency. The Vsync option in your games is the more traditional type, which is best left off.

G-SYNC eliminates stutters, tearing, and reduces input lag. I'm new here after lurking for about a year and had a few questions in regards to the best settings for Apex Legends.

I have an Alienware AWH which supports hz. Apex Legends' engine is capped at FPS currently with no official indication of changing. From what I've read about the engine, it is the same engine used in the Titanfall series and the FPS cap was never successfully bypassed. Assuming this is true, us hz'ers will be stuck running at hz for the time being. With that in mind, what are the optimal settings to use for a game like this with a non-configurable FPS limit?

Since there is no potential benefit of lowered input delay with FPS higher than the refresh rate, G-Sync seems to be a no-brainer. But what about in situations where the game has an FPS limit in place that is lower than the monitor's refresh rate such as the situation I am in? Also, there seems to be a sync option called "Adaptive.

I don't have the tools to generate any kind of data but that is my experience. We are here to help, share and collect information!

My setup right now on Apex is:.

Is G-sync really "needed" if you have a fast PC?

Gsync Driver. ViewSonic XG hz. Low Settings p Smooth as butter, I only drop to fps when on the jump section looking at the whole map from above, wich stresses GPU a lot. Trust me. If you can sustain fps at hz with big consistency tho, it is superior. Problem is having that situation on most modern engines. Almost an impossible task.
